DSE BO Account Fee Estimator
Stay on top of your investment costs by calculating all fixed and variable fees associated with your BO account.
What is a BO Account?
In Bangladesh, a Beneficiary Owner (BO) Account is mandatory to trade shares on the stock exchange. It is held with the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) and managed by your brokerage house (Depository Participant).
Breakdown of Annual Maintenance Fees
Every BO account in Bangladesh is subject to an annual maintenance fee of Tk 450. This fee is distributed among several entities:
- BSEC (Regulator): Tk 200
- CDBL (Central Depository): Tk 100
- Depository Participant (Broker): Tk 100
- Government (Tax/Revenue): Tk 50
Other Common Fees
Aside from the annual maintenance fee, there are other smaller costs that can add up over time:
- IPO Application Fee: Usually Tk 10 per application. This is non-refundable regardless of whether you get an allotment.
- Settlement Fee (Pay-in/Pay-out): A very small percentage (approx. 0.015%) charged by CDBL for transferring shares between accounts during a trade.
- Dematerialization Fee: If you convert old physical paper shares into digital ones.
- Pledging Fee: If you use your shares as collateral for a margin loan.
When are the fees deducted?
The annual maintenance fee is typically deducted between June 15th and June 30th each year. You must ensure that you have at least Tk 450 in cash in your BO account during this period. If your balance is zero, the broker may sell a few of your shares to cover the fee or allow the account to go into a negative balance.
Cost Optimization
If you have multiple BO accounts that you don't use, consider closing them to save on the Tk 450 annual fee. Over 5 years, one unused account costs you Tk 2,250—money that could have been invested in the market!
