The 6 Golden Rules

Business Activity

Core business must not be interest-based (Banks/Insurance), gambling, tobacco, or alcohol.

Debt to Assets (<37%)

Interest-bearing debt must be less than 37% of the total assets of the company.

Non-Compliant Invest. (<33%)

Investment in non-Shariah compliant securities must be less than 33% of total assets.

Non-Compliant Income (<5%)

Income from non-compliant sources (interest) must be less than 5% of total revenue.

Illiquid Assets (>25%)

At least 25% of the total assets must be 'illiquid' (inventory, fixed assets, etc.).

Net Liquid Assets vs Price

Market price per share must be greater than the net liquid assets per share.

Companies release financial reports every quarter. If a company's debt increases or its interest-based income crosses the 5% threshold, its status may change from Compliant to Non-Compliant.
