PSX CGT (Capital Gains Tax) Estimator

Accurately estimate your tax liability for the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Our tool supports both the **Legacy Regressive Regime** and the **New 2024 Flat Regime**.

The 6-Year Rule

For older holdings (bought before July 2024), your tax rate drops every year you hold. After 6 years, your CGT becomes 0%. This was designed to encourage long-term investment.

New 15% Flat Rate

Starting July 1, 2024, the tax system was simplified but made more expensive for long-term holders. Now, everyone (Filers) pays 15% regardless of how long they stay invested.

Non-Filer Penalty

Non-filers are penalized with a 30% flat tax on all profits. This is a significant blow to returns and highlights the importance of being on the FBR Active Taxpayer List.

For securities acquired between July 1, 2022, and June 30, 2024, the CGT becomes 0% if the holding period exceeds 6 years. However, for securities acquired after July 1, 2024, a flat 15% rate applies regardless of how long you hold them.

The National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL) is responsible for calculating and withholding CGT on behalf of the FBR. They issue an annual tax certificate which you can use for your tax filings.
Under the new 2024-25 regime, there is no difference—both are taxed at 15% for Filers. Under the older regime (pre-2024), long-term investors paid significantly less tax (down to 0%) compared to day traders (15%).
NCCPL uses the First-In-First-Out (FIFO) method. If you buy 100 shares in Jan and 100 in Feb, and sell 100 in June, the system assumes you sold the ones bought in Jan. This affects the holding period calculation.
