Analyze the "Gravity" of the market. GEX measures market maker hedging pressure and predicts whether the market will remain stable or enter a high-volatility regime.
When GEX is high, market makers must "Buy the Dip" to stay hedged, which suppresses volatility. When GEX turns negative, they must "Sell the Dip," which accelerates market crashes.
Crucial Pivot Point
Verdict: The market has flipped into Negative GEX. Be extremely cautious—this regime is prone to sharp, fast liquidations and "Flash Crashes."
GEX stands for Gamma Exposure. It measures the rate of change in an option's Delta relative to the underlying stock price. For every option contract a retail trader buys, a Market Maker is usually on the other side. To remain neutral, Market Makers must constantly buy and sell the stock based on its Gamma.
The Gamma Flip is the most important price level in advanced trading. When the stock price is above this level (Positive GEX), Market Makers provide liquidity by selling rallies and buying dips. When the price falls below this level (Negative GEX), they must sell into every drop to hedge their risk, which creates a "Waterfall" effect.
Trading Strategy:
Professional traders often go "Long Gamma" (buy options) when the price is near the flip level to profit from the explosive volatility that occurs when the regime shifts.
