Vietnam Stock Margin & T+1.5 Planner
Model leverage constraints, daily borrowing interest costs, Call Margin thresholds, and Force Sell risk levels for HOSE and HNX accounts.
Understanding Margin Ratios
1. Margin Ratio Definition
Margin Ratio = (Total Asset Value - Outstanding Loan) / Total Asset Value. It is the percentage of the portfolio value represented by your own equity.
2. Call Margin (35%)
Triggered when market movements reduce your equity share to 35% of the total asset value. You will receive an alert to deposit cash or sell shares to restore safety margins.
3. Force Sell (30%)
If the margin ratio drops to 30%, the brokerage's risk management system will automatically place sell orders on your holdings on the HOSE/HNX matching boards to repay the loan principal.
Leverage Best Practices
Interest Accrual Standard: Most Vietnamese brokerages use a standard 360-day year standard to compute daily interest: Daily Interest = Principal * Annual Rate / 360.
Security eligibility list: Not all stocks on HOSE are marginable. The exchange publishes list of margin-eligible stocks based on liquidity, capitalisation, and financial performance.
